Ever read Ayn Rand?
Favorite Answer:I've read her.
She writes like a Soviet, as if everyone in the story is blazoned with a marxist name tag or a DIck Tracy moniker.

Why are Pakistanis so perverted?
I'm sure I don't need to mention Rotherham, Rochdale, Telford, etc, etc. Even my sister, who is unfortunately a brainwashed liberal, has admitted that she is stared at by Pakistani paedophiles far more often than by White or other ones.

There haven't been many Islamic terrorist attacks in the West recently. Are Muslims afraid of reprisals such as Christchurch?
Not too long ago, bloody atrocities carried out by members of the "religion of peace" were in the news on a depressingly regular basis. Not just in this country, but also in other European countries such as France and Germany as well. Yet there have been relatively few attacks in recent months. Could this be because events in New Zealand have shown that people will not necessarily take their brutal rampages lying down anymore?

Have you ever bought a used book with someone else's annotations?
Favorite Answer:Is it a book you'll read as part of taking a class? Then the annotations may prove valuable, if the previous owner was a good student with adequate insight to the material. As you read it yourself, feel especially free to cross out annotations you think are BS and to pen in your own. The book's already scribbled on heavily anyway.
BTW, did the seller tell you about the annotations? You can and should object if they did not.
If the book is a pleasure read, I'd return it to the seller at their cost. Nobody should be writing in popular fiction, and no bookseller should be selling a used book with someone's commentary in the margins and highlighted passages.

Should the transgendered be kept at a safe distance from women at all times?
Many transwomen have raped or otherwise sexually abused women. They remain biological males regardless of whether they have a "sex change" or not and have no place in women's spaces. Keep them out of women's bathrooms and changing rooms, do not let them compete in women's sports, do not put them in women's areas of prisons, etc.

What's the shortest a novel can be before it's a novella or novelette ?
Favorite Answer:In publishing, the parameters for what word count is appropriate for a novella is more rigid than it is for novels. Novellas are 15,000 to 30,000 words. In many genres, there is zero market for novellas. Most are romance, erotic romance, or horror.
(Page counts are too variable, so publishers use word count only. Whatever your word processing software counts is fine. Round the count for a novel to the nearest 5000, for a novella to the closest 1000.)
Novels generally start at 60,000 words and the ideal word count varies by genre. (This information is a decade old and may have changed, but it's all I've got to offer; I follow what's current only in my own genres.)
YA Fiction: 50,000 - 80,000 words, rarely 90,000
Urban Fantasy: 80,000 - 90,000
Paranormal Romance: 80,000 - 90,000
Mysteries and Crime Fiction depends on subgenre:
Cozies 60,000 - 70,000;
All others 80,000 - 100,000Science fiction and Fantasy: 100,000
Epic Fantasy 120,000 - 130,000Mainstream fiction depends on subgenre:
Chick Lit 60,000 - 80,000;
Literary Fiction up to 120,000 but lately trends shorter;
Thrillers 90,000 - 100,000;
Historical Fiction to 140,000
If you write something that falls into No Man's Land, between 30,000 words and the lowest word count for your genre, you probably can't sell it no matter how good it is. There isn't a market unless you're an author so famous your name will sell anything you write.

In a fantasy world were dwarves Are a separate race, what do they call humans with dwarfism?
The thought occured to me that, while I've seen dwarfs in fantasy literature (and other media) it's always as either a completely separate race from humans with some unique characteristics of thier own, or as regular humans with dwarfism. I cannot recall a single instance were a Fantasy Dwarf and a human with dwarfism are even mentioned as existing in the the same story. I'm not saying such a story doesn't exist, but I've never seen one. It did get me thinking though...
In a fantasy world, such as Middle-Earth, were dwarves exist as a separate race from humanity, what would they call regular humans with dwarfism?

Why did Tolkien drag out his stories so much?
Favorite Answer:Shouldn't speak against Tolkien, he was one of the original fantasy authors.
Fantasy books written in the 1950s were different, old English.

Why did Tolkien have so few strong female characters?
Favorite Answer:He was a professor of Professor of Anglo-Saxon and a scholar of mediaeval literature. That was the tradition his mind was trained to, the idioms he thought in. Instead of just slagging him off, how about you pick up a damn biography of the man? How about expanding your own repertoire and looking at the literature that inspired him. Is Beowulf too unrealistic for you? Try the Song of Roland or El Cid. You'll see how the times those stories were set in influenced his world building. He lived and breathed the "Dark Ages." It was a time when men and women lead separate lives. Tolkien was telling the men's story - mostly, see the appendices etc. You think he "drags," imagine if you had to read about what the entwives were up to. You'd be complaining about that too! The women are up to all sorts - the ghost of their movements are all over his work. He doesn't have to tell you everything and if he did you'd complain about him doing so with too many words. So, either read around Tolkien or abandon his work and go read something you enjoy. I just don't see what you're getting out of this.
