  • At what age are baby rabbits/bunnies safe from adult males?

I ended up with 5 unwanted rabbits (3 female, 2 males)

The rabbits seem to really thrive living out on green pasture with organically raised milk goats and egg production hens. They definitely enjoy life being rotated among several fenced yards, each yard approx. 13,000 sq feet.

Of course, rabbits multiply like...well...rabbits, and I noted a female suddenly getting large. So, I isolated her in a "broody hen pen" with hay & water. I also built her a nest box based upon designs found on the internet.

4 days later...7 baby bunnies. All lived. Though one was a runt and was actually losing weight (yes, I weighed them to chart progress). The runt was successfully fed fresh goat milk with a syringe, and it's now hopping about with its siblings.

So here is the question: How old do they need to be before I release the bunnies out with the "General Population". Based upon what I've read about adult males, I'm concerned about them being attacked.

Now I know for a fact that 95% of so-called "problems" with raising poultry only exist when they are confined. Most all problems don't exist when they're free-ranged. I wonder if it's the same with rabbits?
