  • My parents are so stubborn and hard to deal with!?

I know a lot of you, esp. Parents will find it hard to believe my life, but I'm just too frustrated that I need a place to rant!

So currently I'm a third year Engineering student who is also taking two jobs this summer (usually have one part time job during fall and winter) and some summer course to finish finish my degree earlier. My university expenses are paid in FULL, not bc of my parents, but because I get enough from scholarships having a 3.8 average, volunteering in clubs and community centre etc.

My parents haven't given a cent towards my education, which I don't mind, but its frustrating that they don't seem like its important to save for my other siblings (I have seven ranging from 18-7 yro). It frustrates me that ALL the income I work towards is to my family (food, RESP for my siblings, living expenses etc) bc BOTH of my parents don't work. They just rack up cash from the government (which is A LOT, more than enough to survive on) but it always seems to disappear in thin air (making excuses like the bills are expensive, that its their money etc)

For my WHOLE life I have never felt that I was taken care of. From ordering fast food or getting food from Macs/Quickie bc my parents weren't home to cook for us (when I was in grade school, now I usually bus or drive to the grocery store to cook), being denied to play outside just because, having many sketchy people I did not know come into my home to eat food, goof around or what ever they did in the basement, having a mother who verbally abused me (you are so ugly, so stupid, why are you so rebellious (usually just be wanting or leaving home to play on the swings in the park or go to the pool with my friends etc), why are you guys such a handful! Wish I could leave you guys you are all headaches, I hate my life etc etc)

Because of my parents horrible spending habits I always seem to need to regulate. I always have to make sure our bills are paid in full (usually take the mail first before my parents because they hate the fact that I am budding into their life), food is in the fridge, my siblings' expenses are full, saving for a van (my ratty old 1994 and 1996 cars are starting to become more of a hassle to fix), saving for my siblings futures, saving to get out of low income housing etc ON TOP of being a full time university student!

So why don't I leave? Well 1) I love my siblings, they know how screwed up my parents are, how they care about the next packet of cigarettes than dinner. I don't want to leave them, and feel like I need to help them since I am the oldest.

    2) My parents would disown me if I left. I come from a cultural background where children leaving esp girls, home without being married is shameful and scorned. If I left I would never see my siblings again and don't know what would happen to them

Even though my parents had made my life a living hell, between not teaching me how to brush my teeth at age to constantly degrading me everyday to forcing me to give them money, i still.....love them. I am constantly depressed everyday, and contemplate suicide regularly but I always remember why I live, for my siblings, and in the past for God. I just don't know what to do! What I can do.....I feel like I'm so powerless to change anything. That I just work, work, study and work, and try to raise my siblings as best as I can...

Okay, so this is my rant. Sorry if its so long and full of spelling mistakes.....I'm just sick and tired of my life.

Add: My siblings also help as much as they can, but I don't want them to work as much as I have. School comes first, so I make sure that their education isn't hindered when they work for a couple of days a week or month. The older siblings also help me take care of the younger ones, like walking them to school, feeding or looking after them etc. I'm grateful that I have such great siblings :)

  • Why are secular countries allowing radical, intolerant people into their country?

I don't understand why countries like Sweden, Finland, Britian etc allow radical, intolerent people into their country? When their religion and views are NOT the same as your country's why would you let them into your country? (ex. domestic violence is okay, women are sub-human, gays should be killed etc). If you want to migrate helpless ppl, you should just bring precuted groups ex minorities in 3rd world countries or screen people of their way of thinking and see how they assimilate into the country.

  • Christian West: Not in uproar for prosecution of Christians and Ex-Muslims in Muslim Countries?

There are many Christians and almost ALL openly converted Christians in Muslim countries that are killed for not being a Muslim! I don't understand why Christians aren't more active in making the government do something about this! For example, why aren't their refugee camps for Christian Somalis in Kenya? They are constantly gang raped, murdered and maimed and everyone turns a blind eye :/

I see it as if Muslims in those countries don't respect or care for converts or Christian lives (just look at South Sudan, and Ex-Muslims in ALL Muslim countries), why is it a surprise radicals do it in the west too?

    This has to be stopped!

  • Islam: The religion of Peace.......LIES!?

I am already familiar in the MANY hadiths that promote stoning of infidels 9esp Jews and Jewesses (words in the hadiths), apostates, homosexuals, adulterers etc BUT this response from a Muslim is just......horrendous.

    Here is is the hadith:

    Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 38, Number 4349

    Narrated Ali ibn AbuTalib:

A Jewess used to abuse the Prophet (saws)and disparage him. A man strangled her till she died. The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) declared that no recompense was payable for her blood.

Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 4348 Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Abbas

A blind man had a slave-girl who used to abuse the Prophet (saws) and disparage him. He forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the Prophet (saws) and abuse him. So he took a dagger, placed it on her belly, pressed it, and killed her. A child who came between her legs was smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came, the Prophet (saws) was informed about it. He assembled the people and said: ‘I adjure by Allah the man who has done this action and I adjure him by my right to him that he should stand up.’ Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the blind man stood up. He sat before the Prophet (saws) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah (saws)! I am her master; she used to abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her, but she did not stop, and I rebuked her, but she did not abandon her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her, and she was my companion. Last night she began to abuse and disparage you. So I took a dagger, put it on her belly and pressed it till I killed her.’ Thereupon the Prophet (saws) said: ‘Oh be witness, no retaliation is payable for her blood.’

    AND THE MUSLIM's response:

"In the hadees you quoted, it is correct that the Holy Prophet saws declared no diyyat to be paid for the slaying of the jewess who slandered him because the Prophet saws was a witness to the crime and according to the Shariah laws at that time the punishment for blasphemy and slander of the Holy Prophet saws was death.

Today if anybody defiles the character of the Holy Prophet (saws) we are not permitted to take the law into our hands and impart punishment. If this is done people could take advantage and much fitnah would be caused. The correct thing to do is report the same to the authorities if you are living in an Islamic country and let the law take its course. There are laws in non-Islamic countries too wherein one cannot abuse or defile the religion of others."

SO BASICALLY THE KILLING WAS CORRECT AND THAT IN MODERN TIMES IF YOU ARE IN A MUSLIM COUNTRY YOU SHOULD ALSO KILL OTHERS WHO PRACTICE THEIR FREEDOM OF SPEECH?

How is this peaceful or right! I'm sick to my stomach.

  • Quranists? Why so much hate?

I just came across this term yesterday and found this sect interesting. Many hadiths I have read which I believe are overt contradictions in the Qur'an. I don't believe ALL hadiths should be neglected, but Sunnis (who I am) and Shias etc Need to understand that Hadiths are MAN-MADE, and not relevations of Allah (swt) and CAN have mistakes. The hadith I dislike the most are the one's about child brides, execution of homosexuality (sin is a sin, why is it that people who overtly reject zakat (pillar of islam) aren't executed but homos are? and murder of apostates (what? Why murder people with different opinions shouldn't Allah (swt) be most merciful? ), stoning etc. These verses seem all to be man made, why would Allah (swt) ban pork and alcohol but not mention execution of homos and apostates in the Qur'an if it is true?

I know many of you have read the complete Qur'an text, I have and follow it all. BUT have you all read EVERY SINGLE HADITH EVER MADE? Many were rejected by scholars (who are human, therefore prone to error as we are), so why should we take all hadiths as face value?

Most Muslims make fun of the Bible because it is not direct preaching from their son of God, Jesus. But how is hadiths, which as MAN MADE as well, any different? We must seek knowledge and not be blind to falsehood. Allah (swt) did say that many will be lead astray, just because you are Sunni, Shia, Wahabbi, Sufi etc Doesn't mean your sect isn't the one that is going astray

Also IMANS AND SCHOLARS ARE NOT GODS, they can make mistakes just as even Muhammed (PBUH) he'd. All humans are imperfect!

Man goal of this: RESEARCH HADITHS FIRST BEFORE COMMENTING!

    Hadiths I mentioned:

Bukhari (52:260) - "...The Prophet said, 'If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.' " Note that there is no distinction as to how that Muslim came to be a Muslim.

Vol. 7-#137 Narrated Abu al-Khudri: "We got female captives in the war booty and we used to do coitus interruptus with them. So we asked Allah's messenger about it and he said, "Do you really do that?" repeating the question thrice, "There is no soul that is destined to exist but will come into existence, till the Day of Resurrection.""

    http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Qur'an,_Hadith_and_Schol...

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas: Allah's Apostle said, “I also saw the Hell-fire and I had never seen such a horrible sight. I saw that most of the inhabitants were women." The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle! Why is it so?" The Prophet replied, "Because of their ungratefulness." It was asked whether they are ungrateful to Allah. The Prophet said, "They are ungrateful to their companions of life (husbands) and ungrateful to good deeds. If you are benevolent to one of them throughout the life and if she sees anything (undesirable) in you, she will say, 'I never had any good from you.' "

(I guess murder, rape, incest, sex slavery, porn, gambling, etc isn't more horrible than being disobedient....)

  • How did the two grandsons of Muhammed (Saaw) die?

I'm very curious because I want to see if Sunnis and Shias have the same view or different beliefs on this issue.

  • Why is school poorly built for boys?

I don't understand why more comments about slightly more girls are doing well in school than boys is the result of the school system favouring girls. Some say it's because there are more female teachers, but in my whole school career I had a significant amount of male teacher (grade 4, 6, all middle school and the majority in high school), this semester in high school I have all males and next semester I will have four more classes with all males (I NEVER feel shy to ask questions and I always seem to make a teacher-student connection with my male teachers. I don't understand why its a problem to have an opposite sex as a teacher?

I'm just curious what male students feel about their schooling, though I am a female don't think the system favours any gender or race (its all about the person and what they choose to do or not do).

Can someone tell me what is so "wrong" about school that "makes" guys "dumber"? I truly don't believe that its the school systems fault .

Sites: (most of the male comments: http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Raise-A-Reader/gi...

-example: "And that just continuies in the school system in elementary where it is a female dominated system that puts boys at a severe disadvantage as they are in their important early years of development. Boys need a different kind of schooling from girls and the school system is great for girls but deploreable for young boys. It simply is not patterned in a way that meets their needs and the consequences of this are now tragically clear. The Superintendent in North Vancouver has his head in the sand on this one ! By the time the boys reach secondary many are already disillusioned and ready to drop out of school. I work in the school system as a teacher and counsellor and I have observed this happening for at least the last 10 years, and it's getting worse."

". Even at our school, boys tend to ask less questions. And since our teacher is female, you start to slightly notice that the teacher has a bias, that the teacher likes girls than boys. When boys ask a question, she begins her response with the same sentence over and over again, "Weren't you listening? Were you fooling around, ____ (name)?" "

" No, its much easier to blame boys for being lazy and scared, not the fact that boys migh not trive in an enviromnent made by women to encourage women. Now that I have written this, I am realizing that there is no real mention of eduction being famale domited?"

  • What's the different between Shias and Sunnis? Please no...?

Look, please do not say there is no difference! I want to have more knowledge about the two different "personal sections" of Islam. I'm not dumb, I know there is difference in the two types, I've seen them both pray differently (something about the ground) and have different views, like "extra" Imams from Sunni beliefs, whipping(?, don't understand that), and Ali.

PLEASE, I'm not being rude or impertinent, even crude. I JUST want to learn and understand them more. Just give me a brief explanation of what a Sunni is and Shia. That's all. No rude, ignorant comments ridiculing the other type or saying there is no difference. There is! I know there is! They have different names, like Protestant and Catholic.

  • Is it a must to know how to speak french to become a doctor? (Canada)?

I live in Canada, and I understand that it is very difficult to become a doctor, but I really enjoy studying, physics, biology and chemistry. My marks are good; my guidance counsellor says that with hard work I can make it through medical school. Anyway, I live in Ontario and many schools teach in French. I have not put a lot of effort in learning French, since I already have a native language (English is not my first). I do take core French, but my French skills are not well enough to carry a long conversation without thinking deeply about how to say it. I have no desire to work in Quebec and I was thinking of going to England to further my studies or perform my profession there.

Do you think I have to learn French? If so, I am currently in grade 11; do you have any suggestion for after school programs that I can take to improve my French skills? (In ottawa)

  • Math Question!!! Can anyone help! PLEASE!!!?

On the day Sarah was born, her grandparents deposited $500 in a savings account that earns 4.8%/a, compounded monthly. They deposited the same amount on her 5th, 10th, and 15th birthdays. Determine the balance in the account on Sarah's 18th birthday.

    PLEASE. Show your work.

I'm not really good at math, so please don't do steps that would be confusing to a struggling high school math student.

If the formula: A=P(1=i)^n isn't used in this problem, please explain to me what equation is.

    Thank you for reading!

The same one I asked before:

    2) On the first day of every month, Josh deposits $100 in an account that pays 4%/a, compounded monthly.

    a) Determine the balance in his account after one year.

    b) What single sum of money invested today, at the same interest rate, will accumulate to the same amount under Josh's original investment scheme?
