  • Why is my cat having leg cramps? Is it the new cat food?

My cat is a seven year old indoor kitty who has been acting pretty normal except that in the last two months she threw up 4 or 5 times and seemed to be drinking a lot of water. Then I saw blood in her urine, and we took her to the vet.

The vet did a blood test and everything came out fine, but there was some blood in her urine which indicated she might have a urinary tract infection. The vet prescribed Royal Canin Urinary SO, which we have been feeding kitty for about a week. Last night and tonight my cat suddenly cried out -- moaned like she was in pain -- and started shaking her leg. She would curl her foot up under herself and then try to extend her leg and shake it, and then pull it back. After 20 seconds or so it would basically go away, and she would be fine. But she looks like she's scared or something now -- she's hiding under the furniture, which is very unusual for her.

Since this started following switching her food to the Royal Canin SO, I think I'm going to stop feeding that to her. Should I take her to the vet in the morning? Should I be worried about something else? Could this be a sign of intestinal problems, blood sugar issues, or something else?

  • Duke or Yale for Grad School?

Suppose you were accepted to Duke and Yale for grad school. Both have AMAZING programs in what you want to do, but Duke offered you a scholarship, and Yale didn't.

Would you pay an extra $25,000 over the next two years to attend Yale? Would you pay an extra $10,000 to attend Yale? $5,000? I know that Yale is slightly more prestigious than Duke (and Yale is better known internationally), but how much is the prestige factor really worth? I'm not going for a Wall Street job or anything, so I doubt I'll be facing cutthroat competition for the rest of my life where having Yale rather than Duke on my resume would give me that much of an edge.

    What would you do?
