  • Would empty coolant resevoir cause check engine light to come on?

I have a 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback. Yesterday the check engine light came on. Of course, not being a mechanic there's only so much I can check. Oil is fine, the only thing I noted was that my coolant resevoir is completely dry. There is coolant in the radiator, however.

Just wondering if this would make the check engine light come on?

  • A Good Free Text Edit Program?

I'm trying to help out a friend who has a Dell with Windows 7 on it. (I'm a Mac :)

I always thought those PCs came with some sort of free, basic text editing program, but hers doesn't seem to have one. (my Mac came with Text Edit). She has Microsoft Works, but only a trial version that she can't afford to buy.

I've looked online and see some options for free, personal-use software. (EditPad Lite looked good)

I was hoping to get some recommendations for the best programs in this category. Looking forward to any help and suggestions someone is willing to share.

  • Anyone have any experience with NFCC credit counseling?

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this organization: http://www.nfcc.org/

More specifically, how they may or may not have helped you with credit card debt and getting your finances in better order. Any feedback, suggestions or experience?

  • Solar Light Batteries?

Okay - I read all the other threads like this, but I still want to make sure what I was told is correct.

My solar lights use Ni-Cad rechargeable batteries, AA size.

I just left Walmart with a pack of rechargeable batteries - the guy there said I can use these, and that they are the same thing as the ones my lights came with.

Can someone assure me that it's okay to use these batteries instead of the nickel-cadmium batteries that came with my lights?

  • Charcoal Lighter Fluid Storage?

Is it safe to store charcoal lighter fluid in glass? Right now I have it in an empty cottage cheese container, but I'm not so sure about that. Seems like glass might be better.

I have one of those chimneys now, and prefer to use that instead of the fluid, but I had this fluid and was cleaning outside and it started leaking through a slit in the container.

I just need a safe way to keep it contained. Hope someone can help.

  • How to use a Chefmate Knife Sharpener?

I just got one of these at a yard sale for $1 ... such a deal. But no manual to go with it.

On the right-hand side are two slots, and I'm assuming the single one on the left is to hone the blade after sharpening.

Can anyone tell me which of the 2 right-hand slots you use 1st - assuming one is finer than the other. Or even if I'm on the right track.

    Thanks.

  • Outdoor Patio Blinds/Shades - Best place to buy from.?

Looking online for sites that offer outdoor shades/blinds for porches, patios, etc. I've found plenty of sites, but would like info from folks who have used and can recommend a good site for this kind of product.

Been to Home Depot and Lowes and really can't find what I'm looking for at either of these stores.

    Thanks.
