Why is there still light in the shade?

Do you see that tree outside the cave? It's reflecting light into the cave. Same with that pub to the right. Let's get a pint.

the reason there is light in the shade is because if there wasn't then everthing would have to be with out light and that means that you or anything else wouldn't be able to see. the light you see in a shadow is acutally light around the shadow. as you know light bounces off of things, like the ground, etc.when light blocks a direct path to the ground the light around it bounces into the area more noticably, and it makes the shadow a grey to a dark grey color. light is always bouncing off of things, so as i said if you block the direct path the light that ussually goes directly to that spot is gone, leaving the area around it to bounce into it.

diffraction is the process by which light bends around geometric corners

this is a purely wave property

hence

light is found in the geometrical shadow region

because light bends around the obstacle

try this get your fingers close dont let them touch

look through them at a light source

it looks dark even if they dont touch

It is much more diffused than what you would get in a mirror, but light is reflected from every place else to the area known as the shadow.

it is called diffraction.

if you have a light source such as a lamp and place a cut out in front of it. a perfect shadow is not cast. this is because the light bends around obstacles.
