Do PDA's need to be on contract with a cellular company to work?

I am looking to buy a PDA soon. I don't want internet, email, phone, camera, etc. on my PDA. I have a cell phone (no games) for business. I need a PDA to process business. I need to "dock it" to sync my applications to the office computer and process them to the home office. Do I NEED to pay for all the bells and whistles on a PDA just because they are there? Or can I just use the "computer" part with my company software?

there are many types of PDA's you can buy that have nothing to do with phones. I like the Dell Axim X51.

Palm sells PDAs that don't have phone on them. By no means do you HAVE to have all the bells and whistles. Just go to www.palm.com and check out what they have available. Sometimes they have some freebies thrown in that make it better to order direct from them.
