If I'm coming from Shanghai and going to Beijing, what train should I take? How much will it cost?

My husband and I are visiting Shanghai and wants to celebrate New Year's eve in Beijing. I am taking the train to save on transportation expense and experience how it is to ride in it. Can you give me suggestions on how I can explore Shanghai and Beijing on a limited budget? What kind of clothes should we bring considering that it's winter in China? I am coming from a tropical country like the Philippines.

    The train from Shanghai to Beijing

    Z8,Z6,Z22,Z2,Z14(u can buy the ticket 20 days before u go),T110,T104

    In winter it's very cold in Beijing, the lowest temperature can low to -10 centidegree
