Lets work on the first two answers. His area calculations are way off. 3 10's come up to ~236 sq. in. of cone area. A Kicker L7 is square, its are would be 225 sq. in.

The stated range difference is only 2 Hz. The Kicker may be beefier 1 against 1 with the Audiobahns, but the power you can put into 3 of those Audiobahns will easily trump the single Kicker if you decided to go up in the 2000-3000W range. If you are going to stay down at 100W, which is the max RMS for the Kicker, go with the Kicker. It's be simpler and take up less room. You'll still get a great sound.

Sparky gave good advice, but he did not address the question. That being said, I'd use a diffierent scale for upgrading. At 500W RMS I'd say you should get a capacitor. At 1000W RMS I'd replace your stock battery with an Optima Yellow Top or another deep-cycle battery. Most people won't turn it up all the way to reach peak RMS numbers for their systems for actual listening. At 1500W I'd implement his suggestions of cable and alternator upgrades. Powermaster makes some good high current alternators.

Something you may not be aware of...

If your total system power is 1000 watts RMS or more, you will need to:

    1. Upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator

    2. Upgrade to a heavy duty deep cycle battery

    3. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace the power wire between the battery and alternator, the ground from the battery to the chassis and the ground strap from the engine/tranny to the chassis with at least 1/0 AWG wire.

Failure to do this will result in you replacing them anyway as the alternator will eventually fail.

Here is a guide that will calculate what size alternator and power wires you need http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php?file=6d26...

A second battery is never a good idea as it's an added strain on the alternator to charge two batteries AND supply power for the car. The ONLY time a second battery is useful is if the audio system is to be used with the car off.

A cap is only good so far as the audio system isn't trying to pull too much from the electrical system. A cap doesn't provide more power, it's designed to 'stiffen' the voltage to the amp, nothing esle. If the current isn't there, a cap won't help. The alternator must have at least 20% more amperage power than the entire vehicle and sound system combined for a cap to be of benefit which is ironically the same requirements for an amp to be efficient.

Cone area is not the only factor in how much air a sub will move. Noone mentioned excursion, listed as x-max.

That single L7 will cream all over those Audiobombs. -They suck, sorry.

if your asking which way to go. then the six tens is more SPL but the 2 JL will sounds way better. so its relly what your looking for. if it were my cash i have no question i would go with the jl system, 1000 watts is plenty to make you butt numb from vibration. and it will sound undeniebly better. Plus with the JL system you may even get away with not needing a new HO alternator.

well 3 10" speakers is 30" of cone area and a 15" speaker is 15" of cone area. the is double the amount of air you are moving so it will be louder but the tens and the fifteen will have a different sound. the 15 will produce a deeper bass.
