Definitely carbide. Ask for a glass and tile bit at your hardware store. The geometry of the bit makes a difference. Don't just ask for a carbide tipped drill. They will most likely sell you a masonry drill. Not what you want. Ask for a glass and tile bit. They typically look like an arrowhead.

A diamond tipped drill is overkill. And more than likely will not work as the speeds and feeds required will not be obtainable by the common consumer's equipment.

Diamond tools are especially susceptible to heat damage as the majority of them are diamond impregnated steel. And you will most likely cook them before they do anything.

I use a drill bit intended for glass and I *wear* *eye* *protection*. Don't rush. Secure the bottle before drilling. Duct tape might help.

In my opinion this looks amusing in *any* bottle so please consider using a plastic one instead. It can fall off the table onto a handwood floor with minimal harm to floor or to residents.

You will need a diamond tip drill bit large enough

to make the required hole size. Ask at any home improvement center and the sales associates working there will help you get the right bit. Bring

the size bulb you will be using so you can get the

    right size.

torch, warmth the bottle up till its malleable and slowly make that hollow from a distance with a steel rod. use severe warning, any style of unprotected touch at that style of temp will reason intense burns. additionally, use shaded glasses to guard your eyes. thermite, i've got by no potential tried it on glass bottles, tried it as quickly as on a tumbler table, the thermite hearth blazed uncontrolled and at last I had to certainly unload for gas on it so it will snuff itself out. Thermite fires can't be extinguished with water, that is going to certainly convert it to gas. Thermite fires has its very own gas, warmth, and oxygen supplies the only authentic thank you to place it out is to make it burn speedier. the different time the glass textile exploded. if in case you wanna attempt it, i might advise some good distance and not use too plenty. No leaded glass. electric powered arc. plasma from electric powered arcs are as much as 50,000 F. you will possibly desire a intense voltage low contemporary furnish and a few tungsten. the glass can't be thicker than a million/4". start up the arc and merely warmth the severe warmth soften the glass. this gadget is merely for people who understand approximately electrical energy, somebody without clue can get themselves and others killed.
