99 cavalier or a 93 Miata?

I am looking to buy a beater car and have the choice of these two vehicles. I am just trying to get something for fuel mileage as a commuter. Both of the vehicle I am looking at have over 150,000 miles and are base models with no extras. Both cars are about $500 and are to be sold immediately. The miata is a 1.6 liter and the cavalier is a 2.2 liter. I just want peoples opinions on which is more reliable and pros and cons on each. And if either car has any serious problems that occur often. Thanks.

    I would suggest the cavalier. At that kind of mileage the cost of repairs is a significant concern and the cavalier is definitely going to be cheaper to work on.
