Good laptop with big screen?

So I'm looking for a new laptop, well actually my first laptop and i have no idea how to find a good one. I would like one with a really big screen, and some new software or whatever and something that won't break down easily. Can you give me some ideas? I'm really not too good with this electronic stuff.

Update:

i dont care about the price, ill look at all of them and then choose the bets deal.

I found a good used HP on ebay for around $300 and it was only 2 years old and still had a warranty from HP on it... it was a business laptop. I did some research and found that business laptops go through more rigorous testing than laptops you can buy at best buy or walmart and are made to last a bit longer.

I got mine last year from this company:

and it is awesome, I think i figured out new it would have been around $1400.00 - so getting it after 2 years for around $300 was a great deal!

MacBook Pro or any of the Sony Vaio NEW ones (don't get the old ones because the computer fan is on the bottom of the laptop and it often gets too heated up, causing the computer to break down; and battery life sucks).

PS. don't get Mac Book Air if you are not really into electronics. It is mostly made for techies & there is no disk drive (you can only get a seperate one) & there is only one USB drive.

You need to state your budget. What you need it for?

I mean, you would say tomorrow "okay I need a car that drives" .. well can you afford a Mercedes, or a Toyota would do fine?

    ANYHOW!

    - Macbook Pro (used if new is too expensive)

    - Acer are good, I have one. 2 years now, just the battery is giving me issues .. support is not bad

    - stay away from Compaq

    - HP is good as well .. good spec vs price ratio

Dont be intimidated by "omg im getting this this AND this for only so little" ... because it's usually a catch and you probably need more power/ram rather than nifty features.

    Hi,

    1) Look at Consumer Reports in your local library. They do an annual review of computers aimed at fairly inexperienced users. They don't like Compaq portables because they need a lot of repairs. Dell is good but weak on their warranty, that is actually doing something to fix it.

    2) Look at PC Magazine on line their annual review of portables is aimed at mid stream users, and the cuurent issue gives the current editor's pick in each catagory -- laptops, desktops, inkjet printers, laser printers, cameras etc.

    3) Look at TigerDirect.com they're large experienced, good prices.

    4) Look at Microcenter.com they have about 8 super stores across the US as well as online sales.

    5) Look at AGEAR. They have a lot of really good stuff, not as widely known, more for the heavy user.......... ASUS brand mostly.

My Sony VAIO has a beautiful wide screen and what's great about Sony is that if you have an issue they'll send a tech to your house to fix it.

Toshibas are good. Don't buy dell... they are pretty good computers but if something breaks down dell's customer service is horrible and they wont fix it. Toshibas are great. my uncle has one and loves it

get the CS3 with it if you are into designing.
