My dog is having surgery tomorrow?

My dog is having surgery tomorrow. She was diagnosed with mast cell tumor and she's having surgery to remove it from her left leg to see if it has spread. Do anyone know what I should expect? I'm really worried and nervous. It hurts me to see her in pain or not feeling well. Emotionally, it really hurts. I want to be able to take care of her without breaking down. Please help!

Just remember that your dog will take her cue from you. Pack leaders are calm and assertive. When you are taking care of her try to keep your tone of voice and body language calm. It will help to keep her calm, to feel safe, secure and if you don't appear upset, scared or worried then she will be less likely to feel those things. Talk to your vet thoroughly about at home care, ask what to expect, what to look for and what to do. Knowing as much as you can will help to keep you calm. If you are unsure about ANYTHING, don't hesitate to call your vet office right away! It doesn't cost anything to call and your vet can give you immediate peace of mind. Make sure you leave your vet's office with a number to call after hours. Most vet offices really care about their patients after they walk out the door, they will likely be happy to help you out in any way they can. Good luck and I hope your dog has a speedy and FULL recovery!

You sound like a great dog owner! The first thing you have to remember is that dogs don't think about things like us. Words like cancer have no meaning to your dog....having said that you need to watch your emotions around your dog once she come home from the Vet tomorrow. Be loving, gentle and keep your environment relaxed so that she doesn't stress her stitches. Overdoing your concerns will scare her and make her act nervous. She will be feeling better in a few days. Have an E collar handy in case she needs it, but don't use it without seeing her work on the incision site. Give her a kiss from me, good luck.

I am sorry to hear about your pup. though i do have any experience with this particular thing I will say a pray for your pup. you can email me if you need to talk i have a couple dogs that went through some bad stuff and made it though fine.

my biggest tip to you is to listen to your vet and dont be afraid to ask questions.

its always really hard to deal with the fact that your dog is sick, but what you can do is just listen to the vet and i think everything will work out. if your really attatched to her your not gunna be able to do it without breaking down but just try to relax and think of her surgery as her getting better and im sure everything will be fine.

good luck and i hope she gets better

    stay strong if you can

It's never easy to watch anyone we love be in pain, especially a beloved pet, but the most we can do is love them while they are with us. Your girl knows you love her. No matter what happens, you gave her a good life and she is grateful for that.
