Showers Only for Newly whelped mommies . A bath can cause bacteria and water to be drawn up into the Uterus and cause Pimetra ( horrible infection that can cause death )

You are welcome to try her in the shower with you as long as she seems not to stressed . If she is a longer coated dog take the time to groom up around her nipples and hind end cutting the hair down quite a bit.

Use mild soap , oatmeal shampoo would be my first choice. I have used Suave on my girls , with a hose outside with no adverce reactions. Just remeber most Poos and soaps have petrolium in it , and thats kinda bad for the enviorment and dogs to ingest ( a proven cancer causing agent ) . These days I am buying Ecos Dish soap , laundry soap ( good for babys clothing and dogs blankets too ) , and Dishwasher soap. The Dish soap is so gentle you can bath a baby in it . Baby Soap is not as Gentle as most people think , its actualy a very drying soap, and they have to add a desinsitizer/a medicine thats like ladocaine to it so it does not burn the eyes .

    Good luck !

    Dogs Giving Birth

Our Vets office washed our mom Yorkie 48 hrs after the birth (when we went for our first puppy check) and then again 5 days after. Since then we have bathed her once a week on the recommendation of our vet. They just cautioned us to rinse her thoroughly. Our puppies are now 5 weeks old and doing fantastic. The mom needs care too.

I gave both my mother dogs a bath 5 hours after they delivered their last puppy. But i am a professional dog groomer and have all the equipment at home to bathe and blow dry my dogs in the matter of 30 minutes.

I would say wait until the puppies are through nursing.

As soon as my cat had kittens (in each of her seven litters), we would bathe her when she was temporarily finished with her kittens. Get the birthing blood off!
