Why is Derek Jeter and the entire Tampa Bay team wearing number 42?

Im thinking its a tribute to Jackie Robinson, cause they did it last year around this time. Is it a tribute or is there some other unknown reason?

Update:

Bradfowl: Mariano Rivera is the only person in the league with the number because he had it before it was retired.

Today is Jackie Robinson Day, his number has been retired by the MLB. No one on any team can wear the number 42 during the season except for Jackie Robinson Day. Everyone that wants to can wear 42 today.

It was Jackie Robinson Day. They honor him by players wearing his number. The only player now to wear the number during the regular season is Yankees' closer, Mariano Rivera.
