If your manager insists that you do work entirely different to your job description what do you do?
If a person whose job title is admin assistant and the manager insists that he actually provides front line childcare (actual contact with children) (UK Law) isn't this a breach of employment laws?

Is the manager the owner of the childcare facility? If he/she is they may ask you to other duties.. However, I would question the morals/ethics of such a practice. Are you certified to care for children or have a license? Have you been trained to handle children? If you haven't and that's NOT what you were hired to do I would politely tell the manager that "it's NOT your duty to assume childcare duties" See what happens. Check out childcare/daycare rule/regulations for your area and see what you find... He/she may be in breach of some law somewhere I would imagine.
good luck
