Reasons for starting to smoke ciggarettes?
Why did you start? I had a b/f for 3-4 years who smoked alot, so i kinda got used to having the scent around me and sitting and talking with him while he smoked - so i was a passive smoker. We broke up and i suppose i had a sort of strange withdrawal effect. I have since bought myself my own and occasionally smoke them. I enjoy the lightheadedness from long deep breaths while smoking. I use them when i'm stressed but don't have anything else to take it out on, and when i'm drudging through the day, because the sudden shift in perspective from the lightheadedness seems to refocus my mind on my current surroundings. Does this seem weird compared to your experiences? I worry that i might become addicted, as i'm very slowly starting to use more. Why did you start? How did you stop, if you did?

It's not weird at all. At least you can admit that it didn't bother you, and you wanted him to change. Instead you wanted to live the lifestyle he has.
I started at the age of 16. My older sister had started at 18, and I wanted to be just like her, plus my friends were smoking too. That was 24 years ago. I still smoke because I enjoy it.
My grandparents are 87 and 83, and they have been smoking for over 60 years, and they still smoke.
My father is 64 and has been smoking for almost 50 years, and he hasn't had 1 smoking related illness. I too have not had 1 smoking related illness.
So I feel I can continue, and everything will be fine.

I started smoking to be "cool" in junior high. I quit cold turkey when I was 24.
You want to "refocus" your mind? Look into meditation, eat better, sleep more, take a walk, listen to music.... You can justify smoking all you want, but it's still bad for you. Stop now before you become a 2 pack a day smoker. Trust me. The longer you smoke, the harder it is to quit.

My ex-girlfriend started because of exam stress. One of her friends suggested it would calm her down, so we talked about it, and agreed she should give it a try, on the understanding that she'd quit once she finished her exams. She actually kept it up for a few more weeks, because we were going on holiday, and I'd asked her to wear a thong on the beach, so she wanted to stay in shape for that, as she'd heard quitting sometimes leads to short-term weight gain. She quit cold turkey when we got home.
