The fastest way to Phuket from Bangkok is the fly of course. It's about a one hour flight. You can use discount airlines like Air Asia, Nok Air, or 1,2, Go. The distance to Phuket is about 900 km. The cheapest is by government bus from the Southern Bus Station. Depending on the type of bus you take 24 or 32 seat bus, it will cost somewhere around 700 to 900 baht and take about 12 to 14 hours. Most of the buses leave in the evening so you sleep on the trip. Recommend flying it's will cost about 2,000 to 2,500 baht. I never recommend resorts, but here is a site you can look at http://www.sawadee.com/

The cheapest way to go to Phuket from Bangkok is the bus. But the best value is def the train or plane.

But DO NOT get the tourist touts buses from the Khao San road agents. They're dirt cheap but the trip will take 20hrs, it'll make numerous unnecessary stops, they drive like maniacs and you'll prob spend as much time waiting around rather than travelling! Theft is rampant on these journeys. You have been warned!

You should take the government buses or the private Super VIP 24 or 32 seat coaches. Seats are way more comfortable and they recline etc. The trip will still take around 11-14hrs. Super VIP 24 costs around 970 THB per person while a 40 seat bus will be abt 670 THB. Keep all valuables on your person (not in the suitcase which will be stowed away - a majority of theft occurs here). Hold tight to your valuables when you sleep and DO NOT accept food and opened bottles of drink from strangers as druggings and the subsequent robberies of this nature are quite common.

A great experience is the train. Catch it to Suratthani then take a bus to Phuket from there which will take 5-6hrs. 2nd class sleepers are 628/678 THB for upper bunk and 678/728 THB for lower bunks (depends on whether you take the faster express train or the slower train). The 1st class sleeper is around 1300 THB per person but is the most comfortable and secure. The bus trip to phuket shouldn't be any more than 200 THB. Trains are relatively safe and secure. If you take the 2nd class sleeper buy a chain lock to chain your bags to the luggage racks just in case. You can buy combined train and bus tickets from any Bangkok travel agents (make sure they're reputable and that they're actually selling you the right tickets).

By far the trains are the best value and the most comfy and safest to travel. I choose the train over buses anyday.

But all in all I would fly via Air Asia, One-Two-Go airlines or Nok Air. Last I checked One-Two-Go had 899-999THB one way tickets. Just as cheap as a luxury bus and train ride and oh so much faster (and pleasant).

All three modes of transport vary in price and the lowest fare you'll find is a bus - but like I said before, it's not a good idea (for security reasons) and it's worth paying a bit extra for comfort and convenience.

Train or flight is the best option I can advise you on.

For accommodation there are plenty of options on different beaches. I recommend Kata beach or Bangtao beach. There's a beachfront lodging called Bangtao Lagoon Bungalows. Rooms vary from a fan bungalow (cold water only) at 810THB p/n including breakfast upwards. A standard small bungalow with AC and hot/cold shower is 1060THB. But it's on one of the most prettiest beaches.

Checkout hotelscombined.com, agoda.com, latestays.com and wotif.com for last minute rates.

    Good luck!

Flying is the fastest way to Phuket or take a real long ride by bus or van to get there.

If you want a beach closer to Bangkok try Jomtien. Jomtien is near Pattaya. Beach in Jomtien is better than the beach in Pattaya but Pattaya has more to offer and cheaper hotels. Bus to Jomtien or Pattaya will run around 120 baht and take around 2 hours.

    http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Asia/Thailand...

Hotels in Pattaya and Jomtien will be cheaper than Phuket.

How much per night do you want to spend for an air conditioned hotel room with TV, safety box and private toilet/shower? You are asking about cheapest transportation and resorts in the same post - resorts are usually more expensive than ordinary hotels!

    Good luck.

There are many budget airlines that ply between Bangkok and Phuket. If you book early, you can get the ticket at a lower price than if you buy close to your departure date. So you need to plan early.
