Has xp installed a new program?
A message was displayed "New program installed". I have not downloaded or installed any programs today. How can I check if anything has been downloaded?
(I just ran an AVG anti-virus / Spyware check but I don't think if found anything)
Is it possible to discover which program is indicated?

No no its not a virus.
When you install a new software till you open that software from the start menu. you will be shown.
Right click on the taskbar and go to start menu->customize->Advance->uncheck the Highlight newly lnstalled program.
