DO NOT CLICK anywhere on that pop-up. This is one of the oldest tricks for rouge anti-spyware programs. This pop-up is just the bait and they hope you'll fall for it...

Try these programs. They are completely FREE and will help:

    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

    http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html

Now, let's talk about your firewall. A good firewall would not have fallen for that old trick. I would highly recommend COMODO or Online Armor firewall. They are both considered two of the very best

Take a look here, they are also FREE:

    http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

    GOOD LUCK !!!

EDIT: The bug most likely disabled your firewall without you even knowing it. These viruses are very clever now-a-days !!!

You don't give the details of the popup, but it sounds like Antivirus 2009 or a varaiant

Antivirus 2009 (or 2008, or Antivirus XP2009 or dozens of other names - there are many clones of this rogue software) is a piece of malware that infects your computer and constantly pops up notices that you have an infection and you have to buy or update Antivirus 2009. This is a scam to trick you into paying $30 for some useless software. The malware installed when you downloaded something from the web, sometimes masquerading as a video codec or other useful software. It is persistent, and infects a number of Windows files.

First download the following (if the virus is blocking your internet, you may have to download these on another machine and burn to CD or copy to a USB memory stick)

    Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

    Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefr...

    CCleaner (cleans out caches) http://www.ccleaner.com/

    Avast! 4 Home: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Now, start the machine in Safe Mode (hit the F8 function key as the machine boots up, and choose Safe mode)

Turn off System Restore on your machine, but only until you get this fixed - many of these trojans get copied into the System Restore files, which anti-virus programs aren't allowed to touch and the viruse could reinstall themselves from there. My Computer > Properties > System Restore.

Then run Malwarebytes, and clean everything it says

    Then run Superantispyware

Then run Avast - If a virus infection is persistent, use Avast to do a boot-scan - click on "schedule boot-scan" and restart the computer

    Then run CCleaner

Then turn System Restore back on.

Now install the antivirus program and antispyware program of your choice to do continuous scanning, and make sure you keep it up to date.

Always keep your Windows, web browser and Java software up to date - frequent patches are released to plug security holes.

    Try This

    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/...

Download, install, update and select Full Scan.

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

    SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition:

    http://www.superantispyware.com/

Download, install, check for updates, then select Scan your Computer, select your drive and select Perform Complete Scan

I would suggest entering safe mode with networking(press f8 while booting)

Then download and update Malwarebytes AntiMalware

    http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/...

    Also use Smitfraudfix

    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

Disconnect the internet and make sure system restore is off while scanning.
