I would suggest you practice your positioning and stance just prior to hitting the ball AND as you continue your stroke through the ball. Most inconsistencies are due to poor foot-work and inconsistent placement of the body as you strike the ball. You should tone down the speed and power, even during matches, and really focus on contacting the ball with the proper stance and with the ball at the proper distance away from your body. Remember to stay down (body low to the ground) and don't lift your head as you swing. Also, lean into the shot as you go through the ball. Practice, practice, practice....and keep a positive attitude! Good luck!

If you are prone to hitting a slice on the backhand then it is most likely the angle of your stroke however not changing to a backhand grip can be a factor too. A little tip you might try: When you take a swing on the backhand side hold the raquet with 2 hands as if you were going to do a two-handed backhand. While setting up for the shot try to think of it as a forehand shot done with your wrong hand. Let your wrong hand guide the face of the raquet and steer the swing just as you would do on your forehand side. In this sense you are mirroring your strong topspin forehand stroke with your wrong hand on the backhand side. Just before connecting with the ball let your wrong hand go of the raquet and continue the follow through with your dominant hand to complete the one-handed backhand. To put topspin on the ball you'll find that you need a tiny bit of wrist flick upwards at the moment of contact, like throwing a frisbee. After a bit of practice with this method you'll soon get to the point that you don't really feel the need to grip or guide the raquet at all with your wrong hand. You may at this point just want to lightly hold the raquet or touch the frame with that hand during the swing set up to get a feel for how the raquet is positioned. If every time you set up for a swing on the back hand side and think of it as a wrong-handed forehand then it may help train your swing to be more powerful and similar to the strokes you're already able to do on the forehand side. Good luck!

get a friend and ask him to only hit to your backhand. Take your time and learn the exact places to hit the ball.
