220V outlet to 110V in the Philippines?

I live in the Philippines. All power sources in residential areas here are 220V. Can I take one 110V leg off of the outlet and put a wire nut over the end and tape it w/ electrical tape. Then on the empty side of the outlet, put a 12 awg wire and run that to a copper rod inserted in the ground under the house? Some people here told me it will work... Thanks

This is a lousy idea....buy an adapter for 110 volt..they are not expensive. A copper rod is going to cost more than an adapter, and you are gauging your ideas on American use of power, not Philippino...just a bad idea all the way around.

if u are here in manila, it will work coz meralco lines are 110 - 110, while in the province its 220 - 0.. im also wanting to make 1 outlet in my house so i can use my induction cooker that was sent to me from the US, i look for a transformer but it was kinda expensive.. 1500W transformer cost almost 5k php.. so im planning on using 110v outlet instead.

The fault is hopefully in the power brick of the Wii that you blown (as that's the first thing in the electrical line) instead of something in the Wii... The power brick itself is fairly cheap & easy to replace @ $20 + shipping new from Nintendo... or less elsewhere (~$10 used @ Gamestop). If that doesn't work, you blew something within the Wii itself & you'll have to send it in for repairs... meaning that you'll have to call Nintendo to arrange for repairs (expect to spend around $70).

it will not work on some areas. some areas mostly provinces uses 220v-0... if that s the case, the only thing you will need is to use a transformer
