When was Jesus really born?December? March?

Is there something in the Bible that will disprove it as Dec 25? What's with paganism (something like sun god, etc) that would connect it with the day we celebrate Christmas? Please give me reference

The bible tells us the the shepherds were tending to their flock at the time so it had to be around the time of the warmer months, maybe September.

Source(s): The reason it was chosen on 12/25 is because of winter soltice. It is a pagan worship of the Sun, not Son. Also the 3 Maji (3 wise men) were sent by King Herod to kill Jesus, not bring him gifts.

Isnt it interesting that the Bible is not specific on the date of Jesus birth bit very clear about the date of his death, Nisan 14. That's because the value was in his dying faithfully as a ransom for sinful mankind. There are indicators that rule out December. The shepherds would not have been out with their flocks in December. Also Jesus was 6 months younger than his cousin John. John was born in March or April.

How does First Chronicles help to prove that Jesus was not born on December 25?

According to First Chronicles, King David organized the priests into 24 “courses,” or groups, each group being assigned to serve for a week at the temple. Thus, a member of each course would get to serve at the temple twice each year, at approximately six-month intervals.

The first course began serving immediately after the end of the Festival of Booths, around late September/early October. The eighth group, named after Abijah, served a week in late November/early December, and then another week in late June/early July. Why is the division of Abijah significant? Because, according to Luke’s account, John the Baptizer’s father, Zechariah, belonged to “the division of Abijah,” and he was actually serving in the temple when the angel appeared to him and announced the coming birth of John.—Luke 1:5, 8, 9.

As Luke’s record shows, John was conceived very soon after this. Hence, he was born nine months later, either early September or early April. Luke’s record also shows that Jesus was six months younger than John. (Luke 1:26) Thus this detail from the book of Chronicles shows that, rather than being born at the end of December, Jesus was born either early March, or early October. Other scriptures show that the latter is the correct time.

  • The New Catholic Encyclopedia said, The date of Christ's birth is not known. The Gospels indicate neither the day nor the month and the birth of Christ was assigned the date of the winter solstice (December 25) in the Julian calendar, January 6 in the Egyptian, because on this day, as the sun began its return to northern skies, the pagan devotees of Mithra celebrated the dies natalis Solis Invicti (birhday of the invincible sun). Christmas originated at a time when the cult of the sun was particularly strong at Rome.

What we do know - Luke Chapter 2:8-11 - shepherds were in the field with their flocks at night at the time of Jesus birth. Generally, the flocks passed the winter under cover; and from this alone it may be seen that the traditional date for Christmas, in the winter, is unlikely to be right, since the Gospel says that the shepherds were in their fields.

    When Was Jesus Really Born

In order to know the date, one must know the Holy Days. The Shepherds in Luke 2 would not be out at night in the winter. The only reason the shepherds were out was because they were waiting for the births of lambs. Lambs, unlike humans and other animals, only give birth once a year, in the early Spring (March/April). This is in the month of Nisan. The word "Nisan" means "beginning." This is why in Exodus, God tells Moses to tell the Israelites to take a goat on the 10th day of Nisan, one year old. This is because this is the season when they would turn one. Four days later they would sacrifice the lamb. So, that night, the lamb that the shepherds were able to welcome was the lamb of God. Also, Bethlehem was the place where the sacrificial lambs were born and raised. This is fitting for God's sacrificial lamb to be born. He died during Passover, and he was born 6 B.C. during Nisan. Calculating the years according to the kings and the priesthood, it would be equivalent to March 20. This is also the date when the stars congregated in one place, the constellation of Aries. Aries represented Judea to the Magi, and Jupiter represented the king. This is how the Magi knew that the King of Judea was being born.

  • That's not a parallel to paganism because we don't know the date Jesus was born. The earliest date celebrated by Christians was January 6. In fact, it's still celebrated by many churches in the East. Of course, December 25 is very close to the winter solstice.

That seems to be in AD 336, a year before the death of Constantine before his conversion to Christianity, he worshiped Sol Invictus. We know for sure that Constantine made Sunday, or the Lord's Day, an official holiday, even though Christians had already been observing it as the day on which Jesus was resurrected.

So it's conceivable Constantine also may have appropriated December 25 for the birthday of Christ. We know that Christian emperors and popes suggested that instead of simply banning pagan ceremonies that they appropriate them for Christianity.

    When Was Jesus Actually Born

    Nobody knows for sure.

No, there is nothing in the Bible that puts a date to Jesus' birth, either to prove or disprove.

There do seem to be a great many celebrations that occur around this time, including the Winter Solstice, or the Pagan Yule and the Roman Saturnalia.

Some people think that Christians hi-jacked the date in order to convert pagans, which is possible.

Then there is that mention in Josephus that places Jesus' birth after the lunar eclipse, which would make it sometime in the winter...December 25? Maybe.

Does it really matter? Most of the Christian world celebrates His birth at that time. Before this "war on Christmas" thing started, the "rules of war" (talk about an oxymoron!) called for a "cease fire" on Christmas day. It does seem that there is always a war going on somewhere, but, for this one day at least, men would put their weapons down and stop killing one another, in the name of "Peace on Earth, Good Will toward Men"...I don't know about anyone else, but I think I miss that one heck of a lot more than I miss the Christmas carolers, or the happy "Merry Christmas" you'd hear everywhere and from everyone.

I just think it is so sad that the "pc people" have to worry themselves with other people's joy.

It was in fact September, the proper date is one that always elude people's minds. 1 represents Alpha 3 represents Omega, 2 days after the creation of time on 9-11. You may know me by several names, but ye was and always will be born of the Virgin
