is it worth it to upgrade if i already have an intel core 2 quad q6600 to an intel core 2 extreme qx6850? i know that extremes are expensive but i saw one selling a second hand at an affordable price. what do you think? please help me.
here is a short comparison:

TIA
yes, i can overclock my q6600. as a matter of fact, its clocked at 3GHz 24/7. i'm also wondering if extremes have unlocked multipliers or only those engineering samples?
thanks for the replies guys. keep em coming.

Probably not, I was thinking the same before (I have a Q6700). You arent going to get much of a noticeable speed difference.
Might as well use it for awhile and go with a Core i7 if you get a new system. They are much faster than the 6000 series quads, and most of the 9000 series too
6600s are easy to overclock I hear though if you can do that

middle 2 Duo has 2 cores middle 2 Quad has 4 cores middle 2 extreme has the two 2 or 4 cores. in case you're using it for gaming then perhaps the E8400 ( middle 2 Duo ) is solid for you and that's a stable overclocker. in case you additionally are using it for video enhancing and photograph enhancing ( which includes Photoshop or aspects ) then the Q6600 ( middle 2 Quad ) is acceptable for you . i think of that the Q6600 is a stable selection while you evaluate that's barely a splash costly than E8400 and an incredible overclocker.

I would upgrade to a i7 that is the only speed boost you would see
