Why do US Army Soldiers rarely wear their Service Uniforms?

Since the adoption of the new Army Combat Uniform, I have not seen a single soldier wearing the green Class A or the new blue Service Uniform.

We wear the Class A or the new ASU only for special occasions. It is NOT the everyday duty uniform unless you are in a place like the Pentagon and even there, some of the folks there I work with wear ACUs daily. The Air Force seems to wear their Service Dress uniform a little more than the rest of us.

To the Marines: We under no circumstances wear what we want to wear whenever we want to wear it. To say that seems a little childish in my opinion. Just like EVERY service, we have standards. Now... if you have been in the military for any more than 5 days then you know there are always knuckleheads who do things and make the rest look bad in the process. The Army has them, and so does the USMC, AIR FORCE, AND NAVY.

The boots tucked in the trousers: That is only reserved for individuals in Airborne units, and on jump status. They do not wear combat boots, they wear highly polished JUMP BOOTS.

The new uniform isn't required to be possessed by all soldiers until the 4th quarter of 2014.

Because we are an Army at War, Recruiters wear ACUs, but we wear Blues (not the new ones) at special functions like graduations.

You wear the Class A uniform for special events or for formal work in places like the Pentagon. You wear the ACU's in your daily work.

To respond to the two people talking about dress uniforms and combat boots. To my knowledge that is only Airborne personel and they wear theire jump boots. It pays respect to the old soldiers.

lets see: wear ACUs and train to protect this country and win wars...

OR wear a service uniform where you can only stand around, look pretty, and act useless?

i forget, is this the MILITARY (you know, that organization whos supposed to be protecting our freedoms) or the flag girl squad we're talking about again?

because it doesnt make sense to work on a vehicle or in the dirt while wearing a dress uniform.

Because nobody can afford to buy the new ASU's.

Hey Devildawg, since the Marines went to the white pants, you guys look more like Doormen than Military.

Really? You guys are really going to tuck dress trousers into combat boots? Even the uniforms that don't do that look absolutely nasty, sorry for you guys that have to wear that junk.

OK, here I go. I'm sure the Army is going to jump all over me.

The Army wears any crap they want to anywhere they want to. Marines restrict the wearing of work uniforms to base and direct transport to and from base. Marines take pride in their appearance, they don't wear combat boots with class A uniforms.

The Army should take a few lessons in dress from the Marines.

Because Class A's have to be dry cleaned.

    That cost money.
