Marlins: Uggla/Coghlan?

Juan C. Rodriguez asked the question in the Florida Sentinel (http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseball_marl... so I'll do the same here.

Should the Marlins trade Uggla this offseason or keep him? Keeping him would mean Chris Coghlan plays the outfield next year (most likely); trading Uggla means moving Coghlan to 2B and giving Cameron Maybin a chance to play everyday.

My opinion: trade Uggla. Coghlan looks to be a beast...in a full season, he'll hit .300 and may go 15/15 or even 20/20. Uggla strikes out way too much and his batting average is too low.

Thoughts from the Marlins fans and/or baseball fans and/or fantasy fans (I picked up Coghlan last week...thus, the reason for the question).

Update:

Sorry, website didnt' work. Try this? http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseball_marl...

Update 2:

Oh, and it's the "Sun-Sentinel". My mistake.

During that All- Star game at Yankee Stadium I think America saw that Uggla is what he is, a good player but nothing great. He benefited from being that guy on a really bad team, thus elevating his status to something more. I agree, trade Uggla esp. with the mindset of the Marlins front office. The Marlins will be in the playoff chase for the remainder of the season, thus getting Uggla and the team more exposure. Strike while the iron (and attention) is hot and let Maybin who is only 22 of course develop into the next Griffey- type.

I'll have to disagree you can't judge how Coghlan is going to do in the majors after part of a season. You'd be giving up someone who has been a solid second baseball for the team and is getting much better defensively...forget the All Star game Dan has a nice glove. At the plate he's been very patient doesn't strikeout like he did last year.

There's nothing wrong with leaving Coghlan in left and once again you're assuming that Maybin, who's in the minors because he couldn't handle the majors after being a starter on opening day, can be an everyday player. There's WAYYY too much assuming going on in your head because a situation like this could happen

Uggla gets traded which means Coghlan doesn't hit in the leadoff spot where he's been on fire, his average drops in his 2nd season which in very possible, Maybin comes back and does horrible like at the beginning of the year...then what?

Chris is good in left, Maybin is still unproven, and Uggla is solid. I watch the Marlins at least 3 times a week I know.

I was never a fan of Dan Uggla since I always though he had an ugly name. J/K, anyways, Chris Coghlan has been a great addition to the team and will probably win the NL Rookie of the Year award. He will be fun to watch with Hanley Ramírez as a double play duo. I can see the Florida Marlins future brightening up and hopefully their GM makes afew smart moves to make them even better next year. They have been great lately and are only 5.5 games back of those Phillies.

If I remember correctly, Uggla won an arbitration case last year which means he's currently on a 1-year contract. Coughlin is still under the team's control and is a greunconsciouser.'

I'm guessing that the eternally money-conscious fish will offer Uggla a contract in the off-season to save face. Using Coughlin as ammo, however, their offer will be less than Uggla wants and he will move on...most likely to an AL team.

i do no longer see why that concerns incredibly one way or the different. It does not make the employer 'elegant'. a techniques from it, the way the Marlins have run the employer makes it between the least 'elegant' agencies interior the league. i do no longer think of PR stunts could desire to make a company 'elegant' yet judging from responses, curiously all people continues to be suckers for a stable PR stunt. nonetheless in my view if i replaced right into a soldier, i could be disillusioned that each physique I ranked replaced right into a circulate to from the Marlins. talk approximately an insult. I recommend a minimum of this is not the Nationals/Pirates/Cubs, yet nonetheless....you think of a minimum of MLB could have despatched out the Padres or Royals, whether the Yankees and Cardinals have been too busy.

  • yeh i agree. Trade uggla you always want good young hitters at the plate and also the season is over for you guys so just rebuild your team before the end of the season

  • I would keep ugla he strikes out alot but also hits lots of hrs
