Mossberg 144LS with chamber issues?

I bought this gun used. It is a fantastically accurate gun, complete with the adjustable aperture and front globe sights. With CCI SV ammo, I can hold sub-MOA at 100 yards off a bench.

But, there's some damage to the chamber. I don't know if it was "shot out" or otherwise damaged by the previous owner, but there are visible grooves where there should be none, and I get backblast of powder. When I shoot standing, I can feel little bite on my left wrist each time I pull the trigger.

I don't really want to replace or reline the barrel, given what a great shooting gun it is. Is there anything I can do to mend the chamber without impacting its otherwise excellent performance?

I would take your rifle to a gunsmith and have it inspected. It looks like the chamber is eroded from your picture. It may be able to be headspaced a little tighter so as to seal and stop gas leakage. I hope this helps you.

Looking at your pictures, it is hard to tell what is wrong because the gun needs to be clean and if not it is in poor condition, but remember that is my opinion based on the pictures.

The part in the red circles looks like it is chipped which may have been caused by firing the gun with a dirty barrel and if it is then you would need to replace that part to stop the blow back of fire and debris coming out of the that part of the barrel.

Here is a site you can look at for parts....

    Good luck....

Looking at your pictures you have what appears to be other issues also.

I wouldn't shoot it anymore till you have a smithy look at it. look at the lower right hand side of your barrel and it appears to have metal failure/ split.
