is making a 7 year old boy wear a hair bobble an abuse of his human rights?

he has been told to wear a hair bobble in his collar length hair for gymnastics. he is distraught - thinks this will make him a girl! he chooses to have longer style length of hair, but it is in no way dangerous, and is now worried he will have to have it cut off. surely this is health and safety gone mad?!

Update:

haylee - all children have rights under the United Nations Rights of the Child Convention. Oh i forgot - not if you are in the US - the only country not to sign up to this convention!

Update 2:

by the way - i'm on my son's side in this one! i think the teacher's out of order!

I wouldn't make him use a hair bobble - find something that looks plain and not girly, a navy blue or black elastic for example. I agree it sounds a bit extreme.

If long hair has to be tied back for gymnastics, then yes, this absolutely should apply to boys as well. It's for safety reasons. He needs for it not to go in his eyes.

I'm sure he doesn't need a "hair bobble". Get some plain black hair elastics. Half the male sports stars you see out there use them these days, so I've no idea why he would think it would make him a girl.

Okay first every child has heard of the human centipede so many say that they've watched it when they got freaked by the trailer. It's not suitable for a child of 10 it's an 18 for a reason. And it may affect your child's mental health state and development more than you may think. I wouldn't recommend anyone watch it let alone a 10 year old

just get his hair cut because he needs to be able to see to do gymnastics, his gymnastics teacher wants him to be safe so either get his hair cut or put it in a pony tail with a hair band because the gymnastics equipment can get caught in his hair. to ease him into the idea of getting hid hair cut let him go to a barber like a big boy and tell the barber in advance you want him to have a modren style for him but short enough not to be put in a pony tail. and also have the barber talk to him saying short hair is actually a good thing.

He should have his hair out of his face when he's doing gymnastics, but a hair bobble?!? Just have him wear a ponytail.

It seems over extreme....if his hair could get caught though what can you do? If he is allowed his down and the girls are not then one ccould argue it is an abuse of THEIR human rights. If I were you I would ask if he cn wear a baseball cap with his hair threaded through the back bit....like rock stars do....

what the **** is a hair bobble? sorry.

never mind.. i looked it up. it sounds like they're trying to degrade your son for having long hair. just have him wear it in a ponytail, with a regular hairtye. that's not degrading, but i would see how a bobble would be..

You shouldn't force it on him, but rather do something nice that he would be comfortable with. ... First do try to understand the child. Do not get mad and out of control.I say let boys wear what ever he wants..No he shouldn't be forced. ... No one should be *forced* into anything unless the situation or scenario it is harmful to the child.

he needs to tie his hair back with an elastic to keep it out of his eyes, the girls have to also. This is for safety reasons.

Children only have rights pertaining to food and proper care.

Get your kid a hair cut and be normal.
