any remidies for 'greasy heal' in a TB with a white sock?

Greasy heel is what we call mud rash in the UK. The standard way of dealing with it is to scrub the area with "Hibiscrub" (an antiseptic wash used in hospital operating theatres) to remove the scabs and then drying and applying antiseptic diaper cream. However, this is painful!

We now use a very old method used by my Grandfather 70 years ago. We make a paste of sulphur powder and liquid paraffin (don't know what this is called in the USA - possibly one of these names - Liquid paraffin has a number of names, including nujol, mineral spirits, adepsine oil, alboline, glymol, liquid paraffin, medicinal paraffin, paraffin oil, saxol, or USP mineral oil. - or it's also known as Pig Oil in the UK - We are not talking about Kerosene!!!). We can buy the ingredients from the saddlery shop.

Wear thin rubber or latex gloves as it is difficult to wash off your hands because it's oily and be careful - the suphur stains things bright yellow!

This mixture is applied to clean dry skin, worked into the hair to get it to the skin. and left overnight. The sulphur acts as an antibiotic (its use as an antibiotic predates Penicillin) and the Liq. Paraffin is not only a carrier, it waterproofs the area if the horse has to be turned out and it softens the scabs and when you come to remove it with warm water and liquid soap or washing up liquid it will lift off the scabs relatively painlessly. Apply more when the skin is dry and keep doing so until the lesions are healed.

The mix can be used as a preventative too. When my horse hunted regularly we used to put it on under his brushing boots.

We've used this successfully with even the worst cases which have failed to respond to anything else. It's also a lot cheaper than many of the proprietary products sold for this purpose and works better.

The White Sox are ok i assume. even however, A.J. Pierzynski is the biggest (and meanest) fool I even have ever considered. Over right here interior the Bay section he kneed the Giants coach interior the groin for no good reason. Plus all he did with the Giants became into hit into double performs.
