For females please who have to see a urologist. What is a cystoscopy or ureterscopy and was it painful?

I went to my gyn and they said I had blood in urine and they want me to follow up with a urologist. This has been happening off and on for awhile. So, now I'm going to see a urologist to look at my uterus and I guess bladder. I'm afraid. Can you give me some insight on what will happen? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance

A cystocopy/ureteroscopy is when a doctor inserts instruments into the bladder and ureters (not uterus) to visually examine them for abnormalities. They use local anesthesia to numb the area so you won't feel a thing. Occasionally patients are lightly sedated for this procedure, especially if they're nervous--if you prefer this, ask. It's not fun but it's not painful and over quick (under an hour). After the anesthesia wears off, it might sting when you pee for a day or two.

I have this same problem. I get chronic UTIs and I've always been too afraid to go to the urologist. My mom had the same issue and she said that when she went, they took a small tube, like a catheter, and inserted it into her urethra to "elongate it" or something. Apparently if your urethra is too short, it can cause you to catch a UTI more easily. She said it didn't hurt, it was just a little bit uncomfortable, kind of like the discomfort you have when you urinate and have a UTI. She said it went away quickly though and she doesn't have hardly any UTI's anymore. Best of luck!

Yeah i could. yet that is because I worked with many male and woman medical doctors and Nurses at the same time as i became in EMS. To them, one is an identical as the different..because it is with ob/gyn. Now, could I cough for you or.... ;)
