how was the first circle made?

I'm sure no-one could definitively know, however given that a circle is created from a radius being swept around a central focus point, perhaps the first circle was made by an animal tied to a central stake?

I refer to the really artistic ones as, Alien Graffiti. There are a few witnesses who swear to have seen bright light beams shooting down from the night sky and the next day finding Crop Circles in the area of these light beams. I know aliens do visit this planet, but cannot understand why an alien would create a Crop Circle, if indeed any were made by visiting aliens...

Circles exist in nature. The most obvious 2 are the Sun and the (full) moon. I would guess, considering the importance of those 2 objects in early religions and proto-religious spiritualism, the first drawn circles were *probably* images of the Sun and Moon.

The Moon and Sun appear round but are not.

If a rock fell in water the circular striations wouldn't be circles unless the rock dropped was perfectly round.
