Learners permit guide please?

Im planning to take my learners permit test in a few days and I just wanted someone to tell me exactly what happens step by step starting from when I walk in, meaning the order of things, the time I wait, results, etc. (I hate surprises). Thank you. Optional: Whats the whole deal with my parents' insurance does it go up? Thanks.

You go into the DMV, wait in line, fill out forms, wait for them to call you, turn them in, pay for the test, take the written test, and right after your done, they tell you your score and give you your permit.

Edit: yes their insurance goes up if they put you on it after you get your license. It's because your an inexperienced driver and more likely to get into an accident but after about 2-3 years after getting your license, it goes down.
