What are those searchlights for?

In your city you probably notice one of those torches at night, beaming from side to side usually located in front of a well-known building... or even at an airport.

    These are flood light used by business to attract customers. Usually, they are used at Arena's to promote a band coming to town or a game taking place. They are not at all for communication purposes with Airplanes or any flying devices.

    I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure they're to signal to flying planes.
