Company IT personnel's intrusion?

Our new IT is going to format all our company's desktops and mine is scheduled this afternoon. I've heard he's going to install some monitoring software so he can watch over the network what we're doing. Is this fair? I feel this is a huge intrusion by this stupid disgust-looking guy. Pls. give quick ideas. I don't care my internet will be cut-off.

Update:

Oh! well, is break time can't be given privacy? I only read personal emails during breaktime. Any suggestions in my favor? Middle-east jobs needs something to compensate with homesickness.

Update 2:

Ok! you're right. I was just surprise since I've been working in this company for 3 yrs. now, and this thing have changed.. suddenly. I think some people just want to make a role for themselves!

They have the right to so that. Privacy is so powerless when facing the living.

Good for them. You are there to work, you do not have the right to any privacy on your company's computers, none. Oh, and by the way, watch what you email because that will be monitored too.

It's company equipment you're using on company time, you have no right to privacy.

It's company equipment, they can do anything they want with it. This practice is SOP for most companies. If you want to read private email, use your own equipment. Smart phones are one example of technology that you can use to read personal email.
