He loves her, but is suspicious of opposition from his parents who have other plans and he cannot disobey them in such event. He is waiting for a suitable opportunity when, he hopes, things could be proceed smoothly. It is better to find if this is the reason, otherwise he needs a backbone rather wishbones.
