Football tryouts and skills?

I am looking into joining high school JV football next season. try outs are in 6-8 months from now. What skills should i be practicing now. What are some exercises i should be doing now to prepare myself for try outs. I am 5feet and 6 inchs and about 160 lbs. i am sort of chubby.

should i cut down on the food and get skinnier or should i just practice with my running.

I am very bad at running. i have bad stamina. and im not that fast. What should i do to improve this

Thanks

start to prepare for it now. lift weights as much as possible trust me it will pay off. also run for about 30 min a day that will really help you. also jump rope and any other feet exercises you need to have fast feet for any postion. and yes cut down on all the junk food it will do nothing but slow you down. also dont drink alot of soda. ask anyone else that you know that has played on the jv team or varsity team at your school for any other help.

They take anyone for jv football. You can learn everything you need there. Most of the times in JV they just want bodies to hit, so just show up to tryouts. If you school does a spring football program in May, I would do that too.

Get out and do it, to get ready you should be running, you will run a lot. Drink lots of water the night before your practice. Keep you head up always look at the coaches, ask them what you can do to get better. Do some extra work before practice, and a little after even if it is just running laps around the track. Enjoy it lasts a lifetime!
