What is the procedure like for a woman to remove just the cervix? How long is recovery? Are you put under?

My friend already had a hysterectomy but they left behind her cervix, she now has cancerous cells so they want her to take out the cervix completely. They are going inside of her rather than through the stomach as prior when she had the initial hysterectomy done. Wondering what the surgery will be like? Worse than the first? Do they put you on anaesthetic? How long will she be out of commission?
