Rate Takoma Park MD as place to stay?
I am planning a DC vacation this summer. Is Takoma Park MD a clean, safe place for my family to stay? We would be using the Econolodge on New Hampshire Ave by University. Also, any ratings of the tourist attractions in the Takoma Park area? What's great, what's a waste of time?

Well i live in Tacoma park and there are some nice places and some not so very nice ones. I would advise you stay away from the langley park area and prince georges county. Generally it is a safe environment. i would advise against that hotel as it is in langley park. There aren't many attractions in Tacoma park but the metro is a great way to get to downtown dc

If I had visitors coming into town that is not a hotel I would recommend they stay at. It's not a great area and it's not really near anything. Think of any typical slightly run down suburb around where you live (think strip malls and busy highways) and that's what to expect. There are not really any tourist attractions in the immediate area.
Personally - I would spend an extra $20 a night and stay somewhere closer in. Hotels in this area are very much you get what you pay for. If you find a hotel that seems really cheap compared to other hotels you've looked at - there's a reason why.
