It is a clean install, no sense looking for optimizers, they don't usually work as a rule anyway. you are better off going to your admin control panel, selecting services, and disabling the ones you know you dont use. disable 'messenger' while you are in there. This is not yahoo or msn messenger, it is a network messenger, and is used by spammers to send those pop up window to your computer. Once it was used for admin or supervisors to pop messages to employees, mostly it is unused today infavor of more versitile, secure, office messaging software "like spark" do a google search on XP tips and tricks. for more info about safe services you can disable. if you have messenger clients (yahoo or msn) don't set these to start with windows and disable the 'welcome to' screens. Start these when you want to use them, after your system boots. Also, check your system bios settings, these should not have changed, unless someone was messing around in there. go to the manufacturers site for info on what each option does for your mother board. Unlike operating systems, bios can vary by manufacturer, model, year, chipset, etc. So I couldnt give you much help on that without actually seeing your bios, I would have to be in the room with your computer to do that. Your computer could also see a bit slow after format because it is getting updates from microsoft. To clean your computer, use canned compressed air designed to clean computers. DO NOT use an air compressor, these contain water formed from condensation, when warm air is cooled during the compression (when air contacts the cold metal of the compression canister, water forms. water and computer components = bad juju)

265 what? kbps? mbps(not possible with today's standards)?

Average home internet speeds is 1-3mbps, which is roughly 100-300Kbps (kilibytes) download speed.

    Anything lower is considered bad

    Anything higher is considered good.

I woul recommend trying to get around 6mbps if you can. It is most optimal for the price. However, 1-3mbps is around $20 a month and is most common to have. For you I would recommend trying to get 3mbps.

512 Kbps to about 1mbps is a good internet speed connection for regular use....

    256 is just to slow....

it would be slow doing the simplest of things e.g like getting email etc(ps not as slow as dail up LOL)

it depends on what do you want to do. Downloading, searching, chating or... . but i think that 128 is average, fast and also has reasonable price.
