Did Theodor Roosevelt and FDR get along.?

Their politics are so different. What would a family reunion have been like.

    In short, yes they did.

Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt were distant cousins and two different generations. They overlapped mainly because of Eleanor Roosevelt, who was TR's niece. FDR and TR were similar in a lot of ways, but they were also different. They were similar in that they both loved politics and they were both crusaders and reformers who loved a good fight in politics. Politically, their views were not that far apart. Although TR was a Republican and FDR was a Democrat, their politics were not that different; TR was a liberal Republican who made a name for himself busting monopolies and championing the common man.

In the 1904 presidential election, Franklin Roosevelt actually crossed party lines to support Teddy Roosevelt. In FDR's early days in politics, he tried very hard to mimic Teddy Roosevelt's mannerisms; with imitation being the sincerest form of flattery.

Well FDR looked up to Teddy and saw him as his hero. They were fifth cousins to one another and FDR married Ted's niece Eleanor (yes, it's sort of incestual), Ted walked her down the aisle (since El's dad Elliot had died about 11 years before).

I think they were quite close, since the Roosevelt's were quite a powerful and prominent family in America, they were among the first Dutch settlers there.

    Two different generations....

FDR took office 10 years after Teddy left office.....

Teddy was also 24 years older than FDR....

Some families, when they disagree on political issues, tend to avoid conversations on this topic, while others make a fuss about it.....FDR strikes me as if he had a peaceful temperament, whereas Teddy seemed a lot more fiery....I could imagine, in my mind, that Teddy might have tried to start arguments, but FDR tried to stay out of the argument to avoid conflict....

    I could be completely wrong.....

They were very distant relatives. They simply share the last name. They were like 5th cousins. In fact, Theodore Roosevelt was more closely related to Elanor Roosevelt (FDR's wife) than he was to Franklin.

THEODORE ROOSEVELT (1901-1909) and FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (1933-1945) share a famous name but were only distantly related: they were fifth cousins. Teddy Roosevelt was more closely related to Franklin's wife Eleanor, who was his niece. (She was the daughter of Teddy's brother Elliot.)
