Problem Logging in to facebook. Why do I keep getting this Error Message?

Since about a day ago, I go to the facebook page, input my username and password, then it gives me the following error message. I have tried clearing my cache, cookies, temp internet files, different browsers, different computers and places such as the library, home, and work and still have no luck. I have sent facebook a report several times and have had no luck with any results. My friend is having the same problem. Help?

The website encountered an error while retrieving https://www.facebook.com/checkpoint/ It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

Update:

I have already changed my password to my account... and still does the same thing.

Update 2:

It is not my IP address. I have used 3 different places, all with different IP's and it still is doing it. I have had no problems at all in the past, and all of a sudden this message Occurs.

Been down since 12-5-12 at 12am EST and still is not working :/

Facebook Support doesn't reply to you. Not sure what to do at this point.

Update 4:

Okay so Update as of 12/8/12 @ 1216hrs EST Still unable to Log in and getting the same Error. Now facebook support for some reason you aren't able to send in anymore reports as the screen just freezes when you click Send.

Update 5:

12/11/12 - Still no Word from Facebook and still located out of my Account

    I have been having this problem for over a weak now. I've tried every web browser I could think of and a few I've never heard of on at least 3 different computers and on my phone. I've tried refreshing for over 20 minuets on all the computers with all browsers nothing has worked. The only thing that I can think of that I might have done wrong was click on a $500 target gift card link that took me to some app that spammed all my friends. But my friend spammed me with it and so have several others and I know some of them are still able to log in on the same computers that I can't log in on. I've also filed out facebooks support forms and only got auto replies. No help. Hope it is resolved, I also have a business page associated with my page that I am unable to access because of this problem. Hope it get's fixed or that this gets big enough for this to be noticed.

    The exact same thing's happening to me. The problem seems to be only in my account because other people can log in the computer (which means it isn't the IP that's the problem). Tried waiting for 1 day but no luck. Also tried another computer just in case it's the cache but still no luck. Tried changing my password using the "Forgot Password" option and the password did change successfully but still stops at "https://www.facebook.com/checkpoint%22saying there's a server error (500).

    I assume Facebook's doing some maintenance that affects only select users (probably a unique setting other users don't have) and takes several days.

    There doesn't seem to be a solution on the client side so, well, just wait until Facebook works this out.

    Yesterday, Facebook had a significant event that resulted in mass DNS errors unrelated to our issue and I am sure Facebook programmers are concentrating on stabilizing the Facebook back end infrastructure after this major event. This probably means that they will not be concentrating on resolving our issue which is unrelated (Error 500 is a server based error). This is not looking good, we are so few in a sea of Facebook users,we need to make ourselves heard

    Here is a several things we all MUST DO:

    1. I'm sure many of you have already done so, but keep on doing this, post the error in Facebook's help section here and upload a screen shot:

    2. Send as many emails to the following email address explain the problem:

    info@facebook.com,

    disabled@facebook.com,

    abuse@facebook.com,

    3. Try to find Facebook coders/programmers through backup Facebook accounts you might have and plead with them for help here is an example of some people I found (I do not have a backup account on Facebook so if you have one, try politely contacting these people and others you may find, explain the issue to them, and reference this Yahoo Answers page as well), BE POLITE AND APOLOGIZE FOR CONTACTING THEM (also, please look via Google for other Facebook staff):

    4. Another thing we can do is someone make a YouTube video with a screen capture replicating the issue and link it back here, then we can carry on this discussion on the YouTube comments page and get a bigger audience, THE MORE VISIBILITY,THE BETTER OFF WE ARE!

    Please, let's help each other, no one else is going to make ourselves heard but us, take the time to do these things, let's not be lazy.

  • I'm having the exact same problem!! I've been locked out for 3 days. I've emailed info@facebook.com, disabled@facebook.com, support@facebook.com and tried resetting password, logging in from another IP address... etc. It just seems to have a problem with my account. Other accounts from my same location seem to be fine. Can anyone help??

    Keep updating so we can know if there is a solution to the problem.

    Make another question if this one dies so we can know when it will be resolved. I really hope this isn't permanent.

    I have the same problem too!!! its really annoying.

    As its seems to be the facebook itself problem, i think we should all send them report abt the issues.

    Hope if many of us report to them they would fix the problem soon.

    about a day ha?

    well all you have to do is wait for 24 hours and then it'll work :)

    If not then click the "forget Password" and make up a new password to refresh your fb settings

    Same problem here, tried every trouble shooting technique I can find.. Nothing works.
