What should we do about gun violence in the us?

Stop releasing murderers & Start executing the murderers.

Give guns to all law abiding citizens so they can defend themselves.

Outlawing all guns will certainly do no good. All that would accomplish would be un-arming the law abiding citizens. The bad guys would still be able to (quite easily) get their hands on guns and wreak havoc unchallenged.

It needs to be harder for some people, like people with mental health issues, past crimes of different sorts, people on the no-fly list, etc. to get guns.

You cannot possibly take ALL or even most guns away from people.

No ordinary person really needs assault weapons, handguns, or concealable. Long rifles and shotguns can easily protect the home. And for target shooting or hunting they are better than handguns. The U.S. has the highest gun to person ration on Earth (90 guns per 100 people). And the U.S. has the highest gun violence and murder rate of all developed countries. As a side note, these school, mall, and theater massacres were committed by ordinary people who could legally buy guns.

People say that violence on TV, movies, music, and video games has no effect on people. if this is the case then why do advertisers spend countless billions trying to sell their stuff to us on TV, radio, movies, and even video games. Why is cigarette advertising banned? Obviously because what people see on TV does influence their behavior.

Americans love their guns and love violence in the media. As a result we will not be able to stop these massacres.

Restore all the mental health & social service budgets slashed by Reagan during the 1980s that resulted in millions of millions of people who had legitimate needs for help, therapy, meds, & often residential treatment living situations being discharged, put out onto the street, or forced into out-patient situations with way insufficient supervision abt taking their meds & not acting out. Our jails (and homeless populations) get the burden of these mentally ill individuals who can't manage on their own & end up acting out and/or committing crimes.

I have no trouble with citizens owning guns, overall. Rapid-fire, huge cartridge loads, military style weapons, though, aren't necessary. I think that they could still be accessible, but only as maybe rentals in shooting ranges, not to be kept in people's homes. That way target shooting fans could still enjoy using them, but there wouldn't be tons of them in every neighborhood in the country.

Yeah, criminals would still have some, but troubled young men like in Newtown or Columbine hs. probably wouldn't be able to get them.

Thinking up & selling more PC games, etc that are interesting, have enough action, but less blood, guts & glorying in gore might also be a rare & positive twist to our society's ideas of entertainment. There have always been entertaining, profit-making forms of recreation that haven't involved slaughtering people. Maybe it's time we re-discovered & updated those kinds of things.

You know that's a very good question and i just have to say that i never thought it would come to this. Gun are suppose to be used for protection and now there using them for hate, and to be violent, i honestly don't think people should have gun how can that be the answer when its doing more harm than good ?i don't think those should be in people house especially if some one there family has a mental illness. They could get that gun to kill others, or themselves, anyone who is unstable, and who has problems would do that.

1#gun control,you don't need assault weapons in your home,but for home owners you do need something,because there are lots of bad,insane,envy-crazy,people so you can't do all away with it,but there should be tuff laws against guns,

2#they should also do severe back ground check's,and the city should up date all those people with mental health from young hood till adult,these guns should never be bought or sold to them.

3#guns all in all should be kept in a safe volt,or safe place locked from innocence and mental people if any within your family's home.

4#and if you are going to keep a gun,be serious,cautious, and responsible about them,carry you permit if it goes around with you,and keep a lock on it for safety too many people dying because of the country being so liberally about guns,we need to tuff in up our country's law's. More guns won't help, gun control will. We don't have anywhere near the number of guns America does, gun holders have to be vetted as well as where the holder will secure the gun's, but the shooting tragedies we've had in the UK has shown we need to be be a lot better in ensuring those who hold a gun licence remain fit to retain it!

Middle ground. Ban assault weapons, theres no need for them to hunt or even self defense. A little 22 rifle inside your home is more then enough to put down the intruder.

Assault rifles were not around when the 2nd amendment was wrote, these weapons should not apply
