Does tire width matter here?

So right now I have to replace my tires before I go to Vegas next weekend. My 2008 Toyota Highlander has a tire size of P245/65R17 105S.

Thing is we found a set of tires for 265/65/17. Would this be alright to buy? We found this on craigslist for $200. We will be going through snow and 7 hours of driving.

Update:

When we get to Vegas, we will be going to MT. Charleston to take the family out to the snow.

    Ray,

You are considering driving yourself and your family or friends though snow on used tires that are too wide for your vehicle? Come on, man, too risky. Use snow tires for a vehicle as heavy as a Highlander is nuts. Please buck up and get a new set of tires for your Toyota. Don't force yourself to be doing this all over again before you know it. Buck up now so you don't have to worry about it for another 50k miles.

Hell, dude, you can get the Goodyear Fortera HL's for less than $500 a set!

Don't go cheap bud, tires are just to damn important.

Seem on the sticky label on the door side or within the proprietor's guide, it will have to advise on the suitable tire dimensions for the automobile. Nevertheless that seems like an strange tire size, probably now not what it in the beginning came with? Generally 15" wheels don't use as large as 270 tires besides in all probability on some small physical games automobiles. Anyway what you purchased will work but they "may just" be (brand tolerances range for precise dimensions when comparing with an extra manufacturer or style of sort) reasonably taller so smoother using, much less tight dealing with, and fairly better genuine pace (but if the prior tires weren't the spec'd dimension your speedometer and odometer readings had been already unsuitable so whether or not they're affected in a positive or bad was is hard to investigate, centered on the comment above about them seeming wider than stock, the speedo was once frequently already studying too low).

Do not buy the tires without checking with a tire dealer first to see if you will have any problems.

You shouldn't have any problem with the 265 tires.

Why do you think you will be driving through snow? Are you going off road to get there.

They clean the hiways off all the time.

Be careful buying used tires on Craigs list it is a good way to get burned.
