How do you install those giant speakers in cars?

I don't know how else to ask it. When you pull up to the stop light and the car next to you is thumping. I want to play Hans Zimmer and good movie soundtracks, but I'd like to do it in style with the giant speakers in "boxes" that I've seen. I just don't know what to search for to get started on my diy. I wouldn't mind obnoxiously loud cars near as bad in traffic, if something good was playing on them.Thanks.

No rap, just Hans. Maybe John Williams but no wrap.

i would recommend stopping by the local car audio store and having them guide you through the buying process and install the system, but if you are dead set on doing it yourself, it is going to take a while to install and research more about car audio. i am going to try to make it as easy as possible for you though. start off with a combo package including everything you need (wiring kit, amplifier, subwoofer box, subwoofer(s)), here is one that includes everything at a good price for starters: http://www.amazon.com/XXX-Car-Audio-Pair-Subs/dp/B...

the first thing you will need to do is run the power wire from the positive of your battery (with a fuse like 1 foot from the battery) to the trunk. then you have to find part of your car's metal and clean it up and connect the negative terminal of the amplifier to the car with thick wire. then you have to take out your stereo and run either the preamp outs to the amplifier or the line level (from the car speakers) to the amplifier. while you still have the stereo out, run a wire from the amplifier's "remote on" terminal to the "remote" power on the back of the stereo (so the amplifier is only on when the radio is on and doesn't kill your battery). after that, you connect the amplifier's outputs to the subwoofer box inputs to the subwoofers. once you have done that, you should be good to go.

this will give you bass that you should find pretty strong for your first subwoofer, without breaking the bank. it will definitely be audible from outside the car, but you won't be the loudest car around for anything close to that price (if that is your goal, expect to drop a good $10k AT LEAST)

good luck, and if you have any questions let me know!

  • those speakers your reffering to are known as " SUBWOOFERS" . these types of speakers produce low bass frequencies . since this would be your first "SYSTEM" i would reccomend picking them up at your local pawnshop (they usually have a few to choose from) or buying a "BASS PACKAGE" online.

Along with the subs you will need a box (enclosure) and an amplifier, whioch allows the subwoofer to get the power they need to get loud. (AN AMPLIIFER is required and you will want a CLASS D MONOBLOCK) and a wiring kit.

I do reccomend looking into subwoofers and researching them a little as it may be slightly more complicated to setup than you immagined, even though it maty seem confusing its really quite simple and with a week or to of research you will be able to set your system up by yourself.

I wouldn't recommend getting subs if you don't even know what there called.. They are call subwoofers and you need an amp to power them and you have to match the powers, air space, wire them up, and its a hard process especially for someone of your knowledge about them and they are quite costly if you want an "obnoxiously loud" car.. Like hundreds of dollars
