Will Pinoys make good mercenaries?
There is dire need for soldiers that pay top dollars for deployment in regional conflicts overseas. However a resume of impressive combat experience is needed to qualify. Considering that there are many para-military groups and ex-soldiers with many years of combat exposure in Mindanao, Sulu, Basilan, Abra, Samar and other areas do you think they are willing to travel and fight in certain areas of Africa and Central Asia?
@Deliverance, please do not forget the participation of mercenaries in politically sensitive conflicts are not always aimed at winning the war. There are other objectives not necessarily about forcing the opposing forces to capitulate. And you should not underestimate the Filipino mercenaries' will and loyalty to fight for their employers and sacrifice their lives, limbs or honor in exhange for the mighty riyal, euro , ruble, franc or greenbuck. In short don't count the Pinoy out. Some had already shown these traits in Afghanistan and Angola.

Nope. I do not think Filipinos are good mercenaries.
1. Filipinos are not familiar with the modern sophisticated weapons like the Americans and other European mercenaries. The only guns we often see on tv or in the Filipino movies are M-16 and .45 pistol or .38 revolver. While in Hollywood, we often find new Israel guns design and Belgian rifles etc. Even our very own AFP or the Philippines army and navy is being taught by the US military as evidence for the usually beach maneuvers and exercises under the visiting forces agreement or VFA. We are still trained by the US military forces after all these years? Why? Now you want to hire Filipinos as a mercenaries? Are you crazy? Well if you want them to die immediately go ahead.
2. Filipinos are too small and often malnourished in structure and form. While the mercenaries we often see are bulky and muscle type brutes that can even take a tank or the whole fortress if they have too.
3. We are not well taught or trained in
a jungle warfare or conflict, no surprised we cannot defeat the NPA or the Abu Sayyaf until now. So what kind of mercenaries do you think we are going to be? Mindanao is not a good example of battle field to be
be written in history books. Unlike the WW2 episodes of the Bulkan war and other places like France, Belgium and Germany. Those para-military groups you have in mind cannot stand the conflict in Africa or Central Asia, they will die in battle or just escape the conflict and run off with the money they are paid for. Not because there are war in Sulu, Basilan or Abra or wherever in the Philippines that you think Filipinos are good mercenaries? Well think again. They would rather SING and DANCE to make top money either in DOLLARS or in PESO. Just take a look at Charice, Arnel Pineda, and other Filipinos who went to different contest to make it. Killing is not the only form to make money now a days.
Filipinos would love to travel and fight in certain areas around the world for a bigger share of money, but if you are a financier or a sponsor like the CIA would you hire Filipino mercenaries? Just like the movie "expendable" that CIA Bruce Willis hired the group of Slyvester Stallone to ride high and kill the target. That was in the movie we are talking real events here. I do not think CIA would even considered Filipinos as mercenaries maybe coffee boy or chef in their department why not. But definitely not mercenaries. Just a waste of money.
Even if they are

the NPA are mercenries, like organized crime gangsta 'enforcers' that are paid about 10 times more than the police or AFP regular army. NPA style mercenaries would be about as useful as 'enforcers' used byrussian or italian mafia, mexican drug lords, triad smugglers, etc.. yes they are familiar with guns, use of small explosive devices, and will not hesitate to kill un armed civilians, women, children and other soft targets..
however trained miliatary professionals would be far better at directly engaging other trained military professionals in a 'real' war scenerio. this is why you rarely see NPA or other terrorist types directly engage professional military forces, except by ambush or random placement of home made bombs where the attackers can run away and hide rather than face experienced professional troops.

There should be some Filipinos;
it's amazing how some of the best Filipinos are quiet, unspoken and humble; waiting to be discovered.
