The Philippines announced plans of buying mobile surface to air missiles from Israel. Good or waste of money?
Surface to air missiles and multiple rocket launchers are mobile anti aircraft weapons designed to down jet fighters according to sources. They look good on paper but experts suggest they are very vulnerable to low tech neutralization methods including small weapons fire and can be ineffective during inclement weather even light rains, which the country is always known to have.
Yes, money is available not to mention the creative financing suppliers are known to offer.

Israel has a good reputation for developing reliable, effective missiles about one tenth the cost of slightly superior US models. good bang for the buck, and more than adequate for the old soviet era planes flown by the enemies of Israel in the middle east. [which China copied]
it is a good idea for the AFP to source missiles from multiple suppliers, in order to have a more diverse supply chain able to meet a sudden demand. in other words, it is a good idea to buy a few now, and work out the supply chain, logistics, training, maintenance, etc and develop plans for possible future larger orders; and to do the same thing with several other suppliers also. at some point, if the quantity of missiles to be purchased becomes significant, they should begin to manufacture them under license within the Philippines.

that's waste of money, and if the government will buy some it will come from the lowest bidder and that means lots of misfires.
it seems that the military intelligence of the AFP doesn't know that there were lots of surface to air missiles in the town of Bocaue, Bulacan... they could produce cheap SAM, and it's better than their foreign counterparts.
instead of buying those SAM, I think the government should finance a local company to create its own patrol crafts.

Bad. There are many more things that need attention in the Philippines than missiles. Education and Employment and betterment of the society should be prioritized more imho

well............its better to have them then not to, but instead of buying those missiles, we could invest into somthing that can hopefully bring the economy's future up. Like better education for the people and nationalism so they won't leave and never come back.
