Can this Stereo System be restored improvements in sound quality?

Everything is working 100% but it has a cheap plastic B.S.R. Turntable Can the turntable be changed? The Stereo is a Sanyo JXT-6830 with Top Mounted Record Changer 2 Speed Turntable with MG-28J Phono Cartridge It was a Garage Sale purchase for $9.00

Update:

I will want to reattach the Cartridge to the Turntable once it's installed It could be Fisher or Sanyo not sure Model # is MG-28J. I don't want the B.S.R. Turntable scraped for parts as it still works 100% I want to sell it for $10.00 or so what is it worth?

Update 2:

The Amp isn't crappy I will be looking for a pair of Speakers but I have some Panasonic's in the garage. The Stereo sounds Excellent.

Not going to happen. The unit was designed with the turntable as an integral part. Even if you could upgrade the turntable, you would still be stuck with the original crappy amp & crappy speakers. You get what you pay for.

Excellent is in the ear of the beholder. Thousands of people buy Bose 301 speakers and think they are hearing audio nirvana.

If the MG-28 series cartridge is installed in the system now, that is a magnetic cartridge. That is the part of the turntable/record changer that determines the quality of the sound. You are as high in performance as that system is going to provide, unless the stylus is worn - then you replace it with a new one.

Keep the BSR in there, consider a replacement stylus, save for a better stereo system down the road.
