What literary period did Albert Camus write "The Stranger" and...?

Update:

And what influenced him to write it? I need this... today, actually. Please help me! Thank you in advance.

Update 2:

Well, not just what influenced him to write it, but what influenced him while writing it, that's also what I wanna know. What was happening at the time he wrote it that may've influenced him... that's also important.

I'm not sure you can put it into a particular literary period as such. It was written in the post-war period in the 1940s and first published in 1954.

Reflects the ethics of violence and the dilema of personal choice. Doing something which society deems to be wrong because you believe it to be the right thing for you to do.

Mind you, it's a long time since I read it - 50 years to be precise!
