What would be the best antivirus security for a Macbook Pro that's free (completely)?

I just got my Macbok Pro (my new baby) not tooling ago, actually a little more than a month ago, and I want to get something, but I quickly realized that Microsoft Security Essentials doesn't work with it like my old computer so I'd like a legitimate, free, thorough security because a bunch of random hyperlinks show up on random words and especially the numbers 1-5. I looked it up and it says it's some sort of virus so I'd like to get rid of this without having to reset my computer completely (didn't know about time machine until after it happened).

So I suppose I'm asking multiple things... Still, your help would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Update:

Also when I click on something, like if I'm on fan fiction or watt pad or youtube or anything really, it ends up opening another tab to some security things all the time and I really want it to stop, it's getting annoying constantly clicking that 'x' button.

Macs run a completely different operating system than Windows PCs. because of this, a windows based anti virus will not work. you have to look for mac specific software.

a popular one is Avast, you can find it here.
