How do commissions on deviantart work?

I want to ask some people to create some pieces for me.

But I'm not sure how I'd pay them. So how do the commissions work?

Do I need a paypal account? Will they need my email?

And what are these points I've been seeing? I have the app on my phone and haven't seen anything about points so far. So how do those work?

Different artists have different rules for their commission info, so be sure to ask the artist you want to commission for exact details.

Usually, for commissions that require real payment, yes, you will need something like a Paypal account. If you have a Paypal account, you will need the artist's email address so that you can send money to it.

Points are deviantART's virtual currency. They're basically just another way you can buy things from deviantART. For example, a CORE membership (deviantART's "premium" service) costs $15 every three months. You can either pay that amount using a credit card or Paypal, or you could pay it using points. 1 US dollar = 80 points, so you would need 1200 points to pay the $15 for a CORE membership.

Some artists allow you to pay them in points, while some don't. Again, this is something you'd have to ask the artist you want to commission.
